Rochester, N.Y., May 17, 2022 – We join you in grieving the lives lost in the unbearable act of violence at the Tops supermarket in Buffalo this weekend. We pray that the care, love, and continued support that people are showing for one another can play some role in comforting the pain felt by the victims’ families and friends, and anyone directly impacted by this horrific event. To know this happened at a company with whom we share a love of service, and love for our shared Buffalo community, is nothing short of heartbreaking.
We are outraged by yet another act of hatred perpetrated against the Black community. We extend our support to our black employees, customers, and those in our communities who have been deeply affected by this. We stand against all forms of racism and violence and any behaviors and ideologies that divide us from one another.
At this time, we are focused on meeting the current needs of our people and the community, by working with Buffalo Peacemakers, FeedMore WNY, United Way and identifying other ways to support the impacted neighborhoods.
We believe healing and change requires each of us and all of us to commit ourselves to being a positive force for unity. We will continue to lend our support to our people, to our friends at Tops, and to our neighbors across the Buffalo community and beyond. We stand in solidarity with you in putting our values into action, especially in extending the care and respect that all people deserve all of the time.
God bless,
The Wegmans Family
