Wegmans’ pledge to you

Since 1916, our business philosophy has been to be the very best at serving the wants and needs of our customers. Wegmans understands that you care how information about you is used and shared, and we appreciate your trust that we will use the information wisely and legitimately. Our video systems record digital images but do not record audio. Information from the Security Equipment (“Security Information”) is accessible only to a limited number of Wegmans employees, or to third-party service providers or law enforcement, engaged to assist with security-related tasks. The third-party service providers may have access to Security Information only where strictly required to perform their tasks, and are not allowed to use the Security Information for any other purposes; and we may provide Security Information to law enforcement for investigations, to prevent fraud, or for safety and security purposes.

Cookies, Pixels, Other Digital Tracking Tools, and Analytics

We use digital tracking tools (such as “cookies,” web beacons, and pixels) to collect and store information whenever you interact with our website and app through your computer or mobile device.

Cookies are very small text files that are placed on your device by a web server that allow us, or another party, to collect and analyze information about your use of our website. Pixels and other tracking technologies can load small graphic files in our website or the emails we send and also collect and analyze information about you. This information may include how often you visit our website, the pages you visit, and the other websites you use prior to visiting our website, the type of browser, device, or hardware you are using, search terms, mobile network information, IP-based geographic location, and how you interact with an e-mail we send. We use this information to improve our website and communications with you, as well as to customize your experience while you are on our site. Most third-party analytics tools collect only the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit our website, rather than your name or other identifying information. Although third-party analytics tools may store a digital tracking tool on your computer or device to identify you as a unique user the next time you visit our website, the digital tracking tools typically cannot be used by anyone but that third party. Some of these third-party service providers may collect information from our website for retargeting and more personalized interest-based advertising.

The third-party digital tracking tools we use include the following:

  • Google. We may use Google Analytics to collect information regarding visitor behavior and demographics on our website, and to develop website content. For more information about Google Analytics, visit Google’s Advertising Policy. You can opt out of ads from Google or personalize the ads you receive by going to the Google Ads Settings Page.
  • Meta. We may use certain tools offered by Meta that enable Meta to collect or receive information about actions you take on our website through use of cookies or in order to provide measurement services, targeted ads, and other services. For more information regarding the collection and use of such information by Meta, see Meta’s Privacy Policy.

If you make use of a Wegmans mobile application, we may use certain third-party tools for analytics in relation to mobile application usage as well.

Wegmans does not control how third parties collect or use your information to serve interest-based advertising. For more information about third-party service providers who may build a profile on you based on your online browsing activities please visit the YourAdChoices FAQs. To opt out of interest-based advertising from participating advertising companies please visit the DAA’s Consumer Choice Tool or the NAI Consumer Opt-Out Tool.

Your Account

If you have a Wegmans Shoppers Club account, the information you provided on your application is merged with your Wegmans.com profile (if you choose to register for our online services). Whether we interact with you online or at our stores, we feel it’s important to have one account for you, to facilitate customer service.

The security of your account is very important to us. If you register for online services that we provide, we encourage you to use a strong password and not reuse a password that you use or have used elsewhere. As a customer, you also play an important role in protecting your own data. Advice on how to create a strong password from the Federal Trade Commission, including through use of a password manager program, is available here. Also, you can add multi-factor authentication protection to your account. Details are available here.

If you have any questions concerning the security of your account, or think that your account has been used by someone else without your permission, please contact us immediately at 1-800-WEGMANS (934-6267). We are always ready to help address any security concerns you have with your account.

Where Wegmans de-identifies personal data in order to protect it, we will not re-identify such data and, if such de-identified data is shared with a third party as described below, we will take steps to ensure that no re-identification occurs. It is also important for us to keep certain information relating to your account, such as historical purchases, even if you request that we delete your personal data (see the “Data Rights” section below). If you do request deletion of your personal data, we will remove it from our databases and systems by either deleting your data or de-identifying it, although we will retain any information we are required to keep by law.

Wegmans may work with third parties to show you tailored ads. We may also work with third-party platforms, like Google or Meta, to show Wegmans ads on these platforms. We also share customer purchase data with third-party advertising platforms, which in turn provide de-identified audiences to third parties, such as your favorite product brands, for targeting advertisements. If you provide us with your mobile telephone number, for example when you place an order through Meals 2GO, we may use that number to contact you, and may send you informational text messages about your order. For more information on our use of your telephone number, click here.

If you place an order through our website or applications as a “guest,” we will retain the order information you provide, in case you have any questions about the order later.

How is your information shared?

  • Employees
Our employees need access to your personal data to serve you better. Access to customer information, however, is limited to employees who need it in order to serve customers, maintain our information systems or for safety and security purposes. All employees with access to customer personal data are subject to our company privacy and information security policies.
  • Service Providers
We may confidentially share personal data with companies that provide support services to us, such as direct mail, marketing, email, web hosting, and payment processing. These companies are not authorized to share or use the information we provide for any other purpose. We may confidentially provide purchase information to service providers, including in aggregated (i.e., customer non-specific) or de-identified form, in order to engage in planning, analysis, research, and product development, or to bring you special offers on products and services. We also share your personal data, including unique identifiers, with advertisers, marketing partners, and data analytics providers that we have engaged.
  • Third Parties
Third parties that we contract with may use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies to collect or receive information from our website and use that information to provide services on our behalf. We may also provide, through a retail media network or other platform, de-identified purchase and profile data to product brands and advertisers that they may use to send ads to you. These ads reach you from such entities based on other de-identified and aggregated purchase and profile information they have, but not on identifiable information from us.
  • SNAP
To the extent permitted by law, and to the extent you purchase products under SNAP from Wegmans, we may share with FNS and its authorized partners and agencies certain data that they may request to evaluate online ordering and administering SNAP (e.g., assessing the impact of online purchasing for the various parties involved, identifying implementation issues, and analyzing program integrity concerns).
  • Other Situations
We may release customer personal data when we believe it is necessary to comply with the law, enforce our legal rights; or to protect our customers or us. We may also release your information if you request or authorize us to do so.

How do you protect my data?

Securing your personal data is a top priority. We have administrative, technical, and physical safeguards in place to protect your information. For example, our website uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption so that your personal data cannot be read as it passes over the Internet. However, no information shared over the Internet or stored in a computer system is 100% safe. You are also responsible for taking reasonable steps to protect the personal data you store in your account against unauthorized disclosure or misuse. For this reason, remember to keep your Wegmans account credentials secure. Also, be sure to secure the credentials you use to access your email account, so no one can impersonate you and steal your personal data. Further, be sure to sign off when finished using a shared computer or mobile device.

We, and our service providers, may use and store this information, in combination with other location-based information such as IP address and billing address, to provide enhanced location-based services, such as store-specific services, search results, and other content. You can stop all collection of information by our mobile applications easily by adjusting the location permissions on your mobile device for our mobile applications or by uninstalling the mobile applications altogether.
