How do I file a complaint if I feel that my privacy has been compromised?

HIPAA permits you to file a privacy complaint with Wegmans regarding allegations of improper use or disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI). Wegmans will fully investigate any complaint and report back to you as soon as possible, but not later than 30 days from the date Wegmans receives your request.

Please understand that complaints will be handled with the highest degree of confidentiality and there will be no retaliation resulting from a complaint. If you believe your privacy rights have been violated, you can file a complaint by:

How can I obtain authorization to access another adult’s Pharmacy records?

In order to access another adult’s Protected Health Information (PHI), you must be a legal representative (Guardian, Power of Attorney agent, Executor or Estate Administrator) or be otherwise authorized by that person. Paperwork establishing this relationship must be provided, including a death certificate if the customer is deceased.

If you do not have any of the above documentation, the Authorization for Disclosure of Medical Information must be completed by the person who’s PHI you’d like to have access to.

How can I obtain a copy of my Pharmacy records from Wegmans?

You have the right to obtain copies of your PHI contained in a designated record set as long as Wegmans maintains it. The designated record set usually will include prescription and billing records. We may charge you a fee for the costs of copying, mailing and supplies that are necessary to fulfill your request. You may also request to receive a copy of your PHI electronically, in a mutually agreed on and readily producible format. We may deny your request to inspect and copy in certain limited circumstances. If you are denied access to PHI about you, you may request that the denial be reviewed.

What is HIPAA and how does it pertain to pharmacy?

Wegmans is required by the Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to maintain the privacy of Protected Health Information (PHI) and to provide individuals with notice of our legal duties and privacy practices with respect to PHI. PHI is information that may identify you and that relates to your past, present or future physical or mental health or condition and related health care services. This Notice of Privacy Practices (Notice) describes how we may use and disclose PHI to carry out treatment, payment or health care operations and for other specified purposes that are permitted or required by law. The Notice also describes your rights with respect to PHI about you.

Wegmans is required to follow the terms of this Notice. We will not use or disclose PHI about you without your written authorization, except as described in this Notice. We reserve the right to change our practices and this Notice and to make the new Notice effective for all PHI we maintain.

What security features exist to ensure the privacy of my pharmacy records online?

Maintaining the security of our pharmacy customer’s personal information is very important to us which is why we have numerous measures in place to ensure your protection.

One such measure that you will see during the profile setup process is the personal identity verification check administered by our trusted business partner Experian®. This is a one-time process that involves answering specific questions generated by Experian® about you to ensure that the person attempting to access your pharmacy information is truly you.

From a technical standpoint, we utilize TLS encryption technology which secures the connection between your PC or tablet and Wegmans’ servers. Additionally, all of your personal information is stored in our secure HIPAA and PCI compliant database behind a firewall where it cannot be accessed without proper authorization.

How does Wegmans ensure its employees properly handle my health information?

At Wegmans, every employee that works in the pharmacy receives HIPAA training as the very first step in their pharmacy training, and also is required to complete periodic refreshers to stay up on all important privacy updates.

Why do I have to share my date-of-birth and address when picking up a prescription?

At Wegmans the health and wellness of every customer is of the utmost importance to us. We have many customers with similar names and use both of these methods as an extra safety check to ensure you are receiving the correct medication. However, if you are not comfortable saying this information aloud, you may certainly provide your license to help the representative identify your correct prescriptions.

How will medication shipped to my home be packaged?

All Home Delivery orders will be packaged discretely so that the contents of the package cannot be determined. Also in order to protect your privacy, there will be no indication on the packaging regarding its contents.

Can I ask questions of a pharmacist via Wegmans Pharmacy Online, or speak to a pharmacist about prescriptions that are mailed to me?

No, you are not able to communicate directly with a pharmacist online, but a Wegmans pharmacist is available to go over your medications via telephone at 1-800-934-4797 Monday–Friday from 8:30am to 9:00pm, Saturday from 8:30am to 6:00pm, and Sunday from 8:30am to 5:00pm.

Also, a pharmacist is available at your local Wegmans Pharmacy during normal business hours. A pharmacist will contact you for consultation by phone on all new medications or changes in therapy for prescriptions that are shipped to your home.

Will Wegmans contact my doctor for me when I have no refills left or my prescription is expired?

Yes, when you request to refill a prescription that is out of refills or expired, we will contact your doctor for a new prescription.

If I create a Wegmans Pharmacy Online profile, will I still be able to call in refills?

Yes, you can choose whichever method of placing an order that is most convenient for you at the time.

What devices and browsers can I use to access Wegmans Pharmacy Online?

Wegmans Pharmacy Online can be accessed using a PC, laptop, mobile device or tablet through any of the more commonly used browsers (Internet Explorer, Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari).

What if I couldn’t make it to pick up my prescription?

Prescriptions are returned to our shelves if they haven’t been picked up in 10 days. If you still need the medication, just give us a call. We’ll be glad to fill it again for you.

When can I pick up my prescription?

Your prescription could be ready in as little as 24 hours depending on the day and/or time of day you submit your request. Please check the status of your order at Wegmans Pharmacy Online before visiting the store to pick up your order.

What is the delivery area for prescriptions?

Home Delivery service delivers your prescriptions directly to your mailbox, anywhere in the United States and Puerto Rico.

Will I still receive my text reminders that my prescription is ready/filled?

Yes. If you are enrolled in text alerts, you will receive a text when your order has shipped with tracking information, as well as a text when your order has been delivered.

Where will they leave my prescriptions if my mailbox is too small/I don’t have a mailbox and my mail is delivered through a slot in my front door?

The USPS carrier will use their discretion when delivering large or bulky items; refer to your local post office for more information.
